More in Bursa and on to Selcuk!

This is the lovely, shaded entrance to the Ulu Mosque in Bursa.  We visited the mosque on our way out of the city.

The interior is capped by these lovely details on the central dome.  The light enters through a cap of glass.

The glass -capped dome has a round opening in the top.  Rain water falls into this fountain and refreshes the air inside the mosque.

The signature of the Sultan graces the far wall of this mosque.

One of the names of Allah in Arabic calligraphy.

Prayer beads await the faithful.

A name of Allah.

The prayer niche is adorned in gold leaf and tile mosaics.

The Imam delivers his sermon here each Friday evening.

This glass cap crowns the central dome.  The glass cap dates to the 1300's.

this gentleman is a high school principal in Bursa.  His English was impeccable and he gave me a private tour of the Ulu Mosque.

Northwest Turkey has many wind farms.

A Byzantine fortress still stands against the Seljuk Turks.

We stopped in the small town of Seljuk to visit the Isa Bey Mosque.
This mosque is a lovely example of the Seljuk-era mosques.
